Lawsuit filed over Megabus crash near Indianapolis
October 16, 2014
Four people who were on board a double-decker passenger bus that crashed near Indianapolis are suing the bus company.
The Chicago residents filed the lawsuit Wednesday in a Cook County, Illinois, court, claiming negligence by the Megabus line for Tuesday morning’s crash, in which the bus flipped onto its side in an Interstate 65 median in Greenwood.
The lawsuit says passengers heard the driver say the windshield wipers weren’t working during the Atlanta-to-Chicago trip and that the bus was going too fast on the wet highway.
Police say 17 passengers suffered mostly minor injuries after the bus struck a car that had crashed earlier. The most serious injury was likely a broken arm. The bus was carrying more than 50 passengers when it wiped out shortly before 4:30 a.m.
A Megabus spokesman declined Thursday to comment on the lawsuit, saying it was focused on the needs of the passengers.
